Croydon Mencap can offer you support, help and advice if you are caring for someone – usually a son or daughter who has a learning disability.
We provide practical support as well as assisting carers with applying for benefits, advocating for the carer on various issues and liaising with GPs/hospitals over health issues.
Emotional support is provided by ‘being there’ for the carer and listening to their concerns.
Carers can visit us at our office or, if they prefer, we can go to their home.Short breaks are offered on a regular basis in the form of outings, and these give carers a much needed break.
Carers’ Assessments for carers aged 50 plus.
As well as our support service, we are also commissioned by Croydon Council to carry out Carers’ Assessments for carers aged 50 and over who look after someone with a learning disability.
In addition we offer carers support through a range of social activities including, lunches, cinema club get-togethers, talks, outings and theatre trips. Also we hold information sessions on areas of concern such as health & care issues.
