Chief Executive Officer, Croydon Mencap

Location: Portland House, 678 London Road, Thornton Heath, CR7 7HU

Salary: c£50k, depending on proven experience.

Play the leading role in supporting people to live the life that they choose.

Croydon Mencap is a passionate and highly regarded charity, supporting local people with learning disabilities and their carers, as well as the parents of children with disabilities, within the London Borough of Croydon. We provide advice, information, and support, through a range of projects and services, and we lobby and campaign to make life better for those we serve and support.

In 2014 the Croydon Opportunity Pre-school Group closed and transferred its assets to Croydon Mencap, and in April 2021 a further asset transfer took place when Parents in Partnership merged with Croydon Mencap. These charity mergers have enabled us to extend our reach to include additional provision, in particular for children and adults with a learning disability and / or autism, but also to disabled children and adults and adults with special needs and their families, dependents, and carers. We are affiliated to the Royal Mencap Society, but we are fully independently managed and financed.

We are now seeking a forward-thinking CEO to work with our staff, trustees, service providers and other key stakeholders to lead the next stage of our development. Our new CEO will continue to create a place where children and adults with a disability are valued equally, listened to and included, and provide support, services and a ‘voice’ for Croydon residents, promoting positive attitudes and improving the quality of our members lives.

Our new CEO will have the ability to act as an ambassador, to represent the organisation externally, provide leadership, develop new services, seek new funding, manage the day to day running of the organisation, and deliver our business plan and ensure financial sustainability. You will come with a natural ability to lead and motivate staff at all levels, and build a strong working relationship with our passionate Chair and Board of Trustees. We ideally seek those with substantial experience of working within the learning disabilities field, or with vulnerable people.

You will feel comfortable rolling up your sleeves, whilst also keeping a wider strategic view on our development, come with an entrepreneurial flair, and strong commercial and financial acumen. We encourage applications from all backgrounds and are committed to having an organisation that is made up of diverse skills, experiences and abilities.

This is a wonderful role to take Croydon Mencap onto the next level. We want to attract leaders who are brave, curious and bold, are solution focused and forward thinking and genuinely excited by the prospect of realising our further potential.

If you think this describes you, then please get in touch.
