Could you inspire funders to support our vision where people with a learning disability that live in Croydon are valued equally, listened to and included?

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Croydon Mencap’s enthusiastic team.  This permanent role will have primary responsibility for raising both core and restricted income from charitable trusts, grants and statutory funders – as well as inspiring local people to support their local charity.

Fundraising has rarely been so important or so challenging, so for the first time we are employing a professional fundraiser to establish this role and bring in additional funds. This will enable us to run our current services as well as expand the range of support we provide.

Croydon Mencap has a fantastic team who will willingly provide you with the all the information you require to identify fundraising opportunities and submit high quality bids. The people we support are fun to be with and great ambassadors for the charity that supports them live active lives.

Yvonne Pennant-Taylor.

We recently lost Yvonne, our dear friend and colleague at Croydon Mencap, who very sadly passed away from Coronavirus in June.

Yvonne will be hugely missed by everyone whose lives she touched during her long career supporting people with learning disabilities.

Her enthusiasm to offer the best service for the people she supported was infectious and she embraced the challenges that came with her role; going above and beyond what was expected of her at work to benefit so many people.

Following a long career at Lambeth and Southwark Mencap, Yvonne came to work with us last summer and worked tirelessly to launch our Active Lives programme offering weekend and evening activities for Croydon residents with learning disabilities.

In the time she worked with us, we saw only a snapshot of the positive impact she had on the lives of people she supported but we are determined to continue her incredible legacy; supporting people to live the lives they choose.

We are putting together a memory book of times we have spent with Yvonne including photos, messages, drawings and paintings.

Please post your contributions to us or email them to

We have also started a collection for Yvonne’s family. If you would like to contribute to this, please make cheques payable to Croydon Mencap and add a note to say it is for Yvonne’s collection.

We will always remember the kindness and humour Yvonne brought to the office, to activities and to every outing that she loved to organise and take part in and we will miss her very much.
